The restaurant industry in Spokane is changing quickly due to the way people are reacting and adapting to the rules, regulations and restrictions caused by the COVID19 pandemic. Many restaurants have taken a big hit financially and several have close. There are however restaurant owners and operators that are adapting and thriving in this environment. Take out, delivery and patio service are a big part of what is helping restaurant owners survive and thrive.
As a commercial real estate broker and business broker in Spokane, WA I foresee the way restaurant operators grow in the future is by taking all of these factors into consideration. Restaurants and bars with a smaller foot print that have easy access, parking and drive thru capabilities will most likely be the most sought after. A restaurant with a patio will be desirable for people looking to open a restaurant as well.
Ghost kitchens if you haven't heard of them will also contribute to the revolution of the restaurant industry. Ghost kitchens are former restaurants and smaller spaces that have the high volume capability of restaurants but are built for the sole purpose of take out and delivery. These new style concepts focus on food quality and convenience but with out the overhead of full service restaurants.

The correlation between the success of the Gonzaga Basketball Program and the accelerated growth of Spokane and the Spokane County Region is hard to quantify statistically but it's my belief that the correlation is real. The success of the program coupled with the explosion of social media has helped put Spokane on the map for people across the Country and the Globe that may have not known about Spokane and all of the greatness that it has to offer.
For those that have visited or lived in Spokane it's easy to understand why this is such a great city to live in. The incredible beauty of the Spokane River, the incredible parks, the proximity to outdoor recreation and all of the beautiful lakes and mountains nearby.
I believe Gonzaga becoming a power house and being ranked number 1 in the country has helped the rest of the world discover Spokane through the exposure of sports television, radio, blogs and social media. Spokane is growing rapidly and I'd like to believe Gonzaga has played a part in helping this city grow for the better. The growth around campus and the University District is helping attract new businesses and help attract and keep talented people in Spokane. Spokane is a great place to live and is getting even better. Gonzaga Basketball and the Gonzaga community has a lot to do with that.
